The Scrappy Knights of Cancer is equal parts plucky, mystical, vulnerable, and irreverent. It’s a memoir, but it’s also a boisterous rallying cry for solidarity. A political-meets-personal Barbaric Yawp threaded through with punk rock sensibility, and complete with comics, a soundtrack, and a nod to zine culture. Yes, this is a book about cancer, but it’s also about the larger realm of the Scrappy Knights—those of us who fight, love, and stand in community. We are all invited to embrace the Scrappy Knight archetype; indeed, maybe we are being invited to see that we already are Scrappy Knights! I am grateful to Cindy Polinsky for this profound and raucous offering.
