Malawi Memoir

Having heard JFK “ask not what your country can do for you — ask what you can do for your country,” Pat and Jay Jacobson learned of a request from Dr. H. K. Banda to help Nyasaland, a British colony in East Africa, become the independent country called Malawi. This memoir chronicles the lives of both a young woman leaving her position as an aide to Kennedy’s Under Secretary of State and her husband as they take up JFK’s challenge, relocate to Zomba, and become parents and active participants in the new country. A glimpse of both a couple and a nation in transition.
