“I’d taken my bicycle across the country in the baggage car of an Amtrak on the last weekend in August from my home in Great Falls, Massachusetts to Seattle. I rested for a few days at a friend’s house in the big city. Then I started working my way back east across the state of Washington from Bainbridge Island and the shores of the Pacific.
I’m 67 years old, and I don’t ride as fast as I used to. Still, bicycling across country, camping on the land, visiting Native reservations to learn what little I can and then sharing news from NDN Country with folks back home has become a summertime way of life to which I am habituated. I will not easily forsake it, despite the constraint of advancing years.”
